Each actor will learn and rehearse to performance standard 4 contrasting monologues from published plays

* Shakespeare / Jacobean
* Classical
(Greek / Roman / Restoration etc)
* modern
* contemporary

Speeches will be selected from classical, modern or contemporary plays across a range of different styles and periods,
including drama and comedy,

A wide selection of monologues will be provided in each category.  Actors will choose one or more speeches to sight-read in front of the group, before deciding on their favourite speech to memorise, rehearse and perform in the following session.

The penultimate session will provide the opportunity for a tech run of all the material and a running order decided.

The final session will be a work-in-progress performance using basic elements of lighting, sound, costumes and props.

Technical Focus

• How to deal with the verse in classical text
• Exploring how to build characters through bold, imaginative, physical choices.  
• Understanding narrative beats in the play
• Analysis of character actions and objectives
• Developing expertise in the expressive, truthful delivery of text, with an understanding of vocal tempos, narrative rhythm and dynamics in the voice and body
• Bringing emotional reality to the events of the play.
• Memorising through awareness of connected thought and relationship
• Sightreading skills
